Morning Prayer

Time it Takes to Read:

[read_time]

When I wake up in the morning the first thing on my mind is not, ‘I should pray;’ rather it is I hope that I make it to the bathroom in time! It rarely occurs to me that I should spend time in prayer, even when I get up for early morning Bible Studies. Bible Studies do not happen as much as they should because… of things. This is not an excuse, rather, I am holding myself accountable.

As I am sitting here writing this blog I am realizing that I did something recently. Something that I often do not do because of the way I am feeling currently. God has answered my prayer. A prayer that I know better than to ask. I asked for patience. God is teaching me patience. And at my son’s (Bradley) school chapel recital, this morning where the cover photo has come from I realized that my morning prayer time has been almost non-existent. Martin Luther states:

“If I fail to spend two hours in prayer each morning, the devil gets the victory through the day. I have so much business I cannot get on without spending three hours daily in prayer.”

Now, I am not a monk, nor do I think my employers would be very happy if I used that rationale on them, but there is something to it. I realized that when I do pray in the morning for a smooth day it often happens better. Getting tempted less by the many temptations out there and I do not lose my temper as much. I definitely feel that I could do more with more prayer in my life! This is something I plan on changing. This is something that I plan on doing; not three hours a morning, but at least starting out with three minutes and moving from there.

This has been my introspection on my life today. If you feel so inclined to leave a message of encouragement on this post I would certainly appreciate it!

Until next time:

What is Important to Veterans

Season 4: Episode 2: Civilians are Watching

Season 4: Episode 1: That’s Bullsh*t

We’re not starting Season 4 quietly. We’re not easing in with a polite “welcome back.” We’re kicking off 2026 with a full-throttle “that’s bullsh*t!” and we’re doing it the only way we know how — loud, honest, and unfiltered. Welcome to Common Veterans Season 4. This...
