Time it Takes to Read:

[read_time]

Well, it’s January 6th, 2025—my birthday! I woke up to Paul sending us an email that he is going to apply Trinity to go to State… Happy New Year, parents. Let’s delay baseball longer… oh yeah… “Yay…”

A Year of Family Achievements and Growth

As I look back over the last year of my life I have accomplished a myriad of things and am proud of my said achievements. BUT my most favorite accomplishments have come from my children’s accomplishments and achievements! Maybe that’s the turning point of turning old… When you are old you care less about personal accomplishments and more about your children’s. Either way what a great year it has been regardless!

Kenny has turned into a star basketball player, I’m being told that he is coachable - which makes me excited! Kenny maintains practicing baseball year round. Bradley can shred the guitar like he has been playing for years! Bradley has also learned so much about being a friend and teammate that it’s great to see his growth. Addison is conquering 3rd grade with honors, all the while learning the piano and practicing cheerleading (that she is doing on her own).

Sarah’s been rocking the quilting world and has a full on long-arm quilting machine and has been making some awesome quilts! She is very gifted, while maintaining that she is still just learning. Honestly, I had no clue what goes into all that. Just realized how much space it takes, especially, when I lost my bar to it! lol! Not that I used the bar, but I’m proud of her for using it and sticking to it!

Professional Milestones and Future Plans

Professionally, I have made great strides in learning the construction trade. I don’t believe it is hard, but I believe it is tedious and there are lots of little micro-lessons in everything. Project management is easy, in the base scheme of things, and honestly it’s what the youngest of Privates do in the military. Take something by its base levels and work on it until it is done then move to the next project and get it done, rinse and repeat. As I continue to run through the processes, efficiencies and redundancies are being eliminated and I am make sure things get done. I have a few personnel issues that need to be cleared up and learn how to get through to them on a base level, but otherwise, I feel that the Project Management job is going great. I am looking toward warmer weather already though... This cough that comes with cold weather is for the birds!

Looking Forward: Goals and Gratitude for 2025

Outlook for 2025 is good! I look forward to making it another great year! Maybe even get the kids to Disney World this year! I don't know if it is a possiblilty, but we are definitely hoping. Maybe... just maybe... We will make it happen! We are finishing up little Kenny (who's not so little anymore) at Trinity this year. He's enjoying his last baseketball season there at Trinity, and getting ready to gear up for his last season of Veteran's Baseball, too. So many things! Bradley is finishing up his first year of baseketball and says he's going to play again next school year. That should be good, too; Kenny stated that he will coach him over the summer! And Addison, "Oh Addi!" She has goals of becoming a better softball player and playing piano better... she's already really good! I believe that if Sarah and I can keep our sanity between all the events and things that happen, that we will be good to go. So 2025 goal: Keep sane!

Surgery coming up in February on my knee, that should be the last one! No more - done - finito. Time to work out again! Time to get back in shape!

Also, looking like the Combatives are happening again too! I can't wait!

As I celebrate another trip around the sun today, I’m reminded of how blessed I am to have such an amazing family and so many reasons to be grateful. Here’s to making 2025 even better! Well, if you need anything, let me know! I am always happy to help!

Until next time:

PEACE

Service is Sacrifice

Leaving the military doesn’t mean leaving behind the need to serve. For many Veterans, the loss of purpose isn’t about the job—it’s about the sacrifice, the camaraderie, and the identity…

Season 4: Episode3: The Translation Lie

Introduction One of the most common pieces of advice Veterans hear during transition is simple: “Translate your MOS.” The idea sounds reasonable. Replace acronyms with civilian terminology. Turn missions into projects. Convert leadership into management language. Take...

The History of United States Military Challenge Coins

History Small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, challenge coins carry a surprising amount of meaning. Within the United States military, these coins represent recognition, belonging, and shared experience. They are often presented quietly — sometimes by a commander...

Beyond Survival – Learning

Learning Importance to Veterans I didn’t set out to create a blog series on this topic. But after re-reading my last article, I realized something — this conversation is needed. The number of people who read it (or at least clicked on it) was higher than I expected....

What is Important to Veterans

I’ve got a question for you… and then a follow-up question. What is important? Why is it important to you? The answers to those questions will make immediate sense to some of you. To others, they’ll sound simple — maybe even obvious. But there’s a difference between...

Season 4: Episode 2: Civilians are Watching

Movies, television, and social media have created familiar images of Veterans — the unstoppable warrior, the haunted survivor, or the flawless patriot. While often meant to honor service, these portrayals can quietly shape how civilians view and interact with Veterans...

Anxiety of Everyday Life

Understanding Anxiety in the Life of Veterans Anxiety in the scheme and life of things comes in many different forms and changes within the confines and communities of military Veterans. Soldiering is not a minimal commitment- there are soldiers that deserve and earn...

Season 4: Episode 1: That’s Bullsh*t

We’re not starting Season 4 quietly. We’re not easing in with a polite “welcome back.” We’re kicking off 2026 with a full-throttle “that’s bullsh*t!” and we’re doing it the only way we know how — loud, honest, and unfiltered. Welcome to Common Veterans Season 4. This...
