It’s Father’s Day 2021
Happy Father’s Day to all of you Dad’s out there! Thank you for being their for your children. Being a father takes a lot… of… well, a lot of everything: patience, kindness, strength, gumption, the ability to say “No,” and finally a good lock on your bathroom door!
Being a father is not for the faint of heart, or those that cannot follow through. But there are different ways to be a father now, and it’s odd to me. I grew up in the “old way”, and quite frankly I want my children to grow up with that too. They will have modern amenities with a penchant for old school ways. Father’s Day reminds us that we have to be men of integrity. We have to be able to be the man that says, “No!” And follows through on not doing exactly what we told them not to do. Consequently, I make that mistake and my children see right through it. Then I have to explain why, and “because I said so…” does not cut it. Children can be impetuous and struggle with monkey see, monkey no-do, and they will remember that… Mine call me to task. Talk about heartbreak.
My Children
I look forward to my children being able to be their own people. I believe as long as I instill three things into my children that I will have been successful. 1) Integrity: as long as they tell the truth and follow through with what they say. 2) Respect: if they are respectful to those around them and others, but most importantly themselves. 3) Christ centered: this should probably be #1, because theoretically if they have this they will have the others, but Christ just be centered in their life. Just makes life make more sense!
I would be remissed to not acknowledge my wife on Father’s Day, because without her – I would not be a father. I believe that a good father is a good man, not only for his children, but for his wife as well. The facts that I would be a mess without her is an understatement. Furthermore, being a father without a mother would be HARD! God bless all of you who are able to do it. I have a buddy that I served with in Iraq that lost his wife on the birthing table for his first child, I don’t envy him at all, but goodness gracious by the Grace of God he has become an amazing father for his children!
It is tough to be a father these days, but it’s easy with the Grace extended to us by God, the love of a good woman, and having a great lock on your bathroom door! Happy Father’s Day out there, again, to all you Dad’s and Daddy’s! (No, being a fur dad is not a Father’s Day equivalent!)
Till next time:
PEACE
